T3 -- Retro-Fit Doors
T3 -- Retro-Fit Doors
Following the complete success of building Clarissa, my 2 door Type 3(the brown one) in 22/23, I decided to fit doors to Edith (my blue T3) before putting her back on the market.
Clarissa started as a new-build with a bare metal chassis, easier to develop than stripping out an existing build and gave a blank canvas to get the design right.
The brief to myself was to give easy access/exit for Carol (and later myself) while retaining a flush body with no handles or hinges visible.
Bespoke hinges were developed which can now be replicated easily.
The picture shows all the chassis work finished and ready for the body to be bonded on with PU adhesive.
I’m keeping the BS French Blue colour although now would be the best time to do a colour change.

Perhaps update your work on the triangulation please Tony?
Re: 2 Door T3 -- Retro-Fit Doors
Monday:- Body shell bonded on leaving doors hinged in out of the way, giving access to PU joint in doorway.
Tuesday:- Doors bonded into position. Short 'tracer' cuts previously done in shell to give accurate line for final cut with diamond tipped lmm disk.
Wednesday:- Cut out doors. (Pic to follow)

Great job Tony,
It is so inspiring, maybe it could be an option for Alan.
Although it is fun to make it yourself

That went well.

Wow just what I need on my new T4 build. Could you post more detail on hinges and latches,

Hi Mike, good to see you on here.
Where are you in USA, I'll put a pin in the Triking World map if that's ok with you.
Saw your crate picture on fb, presume chassis is powder coated.
You will need to do a bit of welding, how are you fixed in your workshop?
I'll email you shortly then we can talk details.
