Type 1 fuel pump question, I have a 850t powered Type 1 with CV carbs from a Yamaha 650 Midnight Special. My new fuel pump just went down and left me stranded for a bit on the mountain. That pump was rated at 2-3.5 PSI at 30GPH. The pump worked ok but I did seem to flood a little at low rpm, start off. I am considering a Facet 1-2 PSI fuel pump as a replacement. Has anyone used the Facet and if so has it worked well for you. Any additional ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. FYI my pump is mounted low at rear near fuel tank. I’m not sure if the position of the pump is optimal or should be relocated. I purchased the TriKing at auction and both of the previous owners have passed, so I’m just improving what I find as time goes by. The store where the current fuel pump was purchased confirmed that a number of these have failed and were returned. Hopefully the Facet is better than the Edlebrock!
Thanks, Jim
Type 1 Fuel Pump Question
Re: Type 1 Fuel Pump Question
Hi Jim, I installed a Facet pump in the Type 1 I recently rebuilt and also in a Madison kit car. I believe Triking also sell the Facet pump as well. In the Type 1 it’s mounted to one side of the rear wheel arch and enclosed in a metal box/shield to protect it from the road dirt. I also installed an inline fuel tap to make servicing/filter changes easier. It’s a bit noisy but of course once the engine is running you can’t hear it.
These pumps have a good reputation and so far so good.

Re: Type 1 Fuel Pump Question
Dave, thank you for the reply, do you remember which model you used? I am looking at the FEP304SV rated at 1-2 PSI.
Thanks again

Re: Type 1 Fuel Pump Question
Hi Jim, sorry for the delay, I had to find the paperwork! It's a Facet FSE 60104 supplying Dellorto PHM40's. There's no fuel pressure regulator as it's only 1.5 - 4PSI. However, it would be easy enough to fit one although so far it doesn't seem necessary.

Re: Type 1 Fuel Pump Question
Hi Jim. Like Dave I have a facet 60104 (on a type 3 with 1064 engine) - I think you are looking at a 60304, which runs at a lower pressure and delivers a little less fuel. My first facet pump gave some trouble (long story, probably my fault not an inherent fault in the pump) and the second has done a bit over 48,000 km with no worries.
I think on my dell Orto phf36 carbs the pressure from the 60104 can be a little high, with one side going a bit rich if I corner fast with low throttle setting. The lower pressure of the 60304 sounds good - would need to do a bit of trial and error to make sure that it delivers enough fuel at sustained WOT if that’s your thing.
