The red ignition lamp is intermittent on switching on prior to starting the engine.
When it does deign to appear it goes out immediately on the engine running.
New alternator and new regulator.
Regulator earthed direct to battery.

It is supposed to go out as soon as the alternator is turning.
Have you used a filament lamp? An LED won't work.

It does go out on starting Ian. When first switching on sometimes it lights and sometimes it does not.

Presumably an electronic regulator with one of its wires specifically to work the charging light. Oddball fault then. When it does come on, does it flicker if you shake the wiring about? (thinking a poor connection).
Have you had a good voltmeter across the battery and seen 13.8v to 14.1v with the engine running?
