Hi,

I'm fitting the swing arm to my type 3 and have a dilemma, I'm wondering what others have done? The build guide says:
"It is good practice to fit a dust/debris seal between the std Guzzi swing arm and the Triking chassis to protect any exposed thread or shaft on the swing arm retaining bolts, a suitable seal can be fashioned from a universal type steering rack gator or CV joint boot, if the seal is made slightly over long its natural convoluted design will retain a constant sealing pressure once fitted in place."

As I have only about a 3mm gap each side between the swing arm and the chassis, do I need to protect the threads? If I do, what have people used that won't wear the coating off the chassis as the arm moves up and down?

While you are in there, you might like to consider some lubrication for the swinging arm bearings.

This could help, with an ooze of grease to prevent ingress of rubbish.

We cut Steering rack gaiters to fit.
Search for: Bailcast DBSR200 Duraboot Steering Rack Boot Kit - DBSR200
This will make about six sets and one of the tighter ends can be used for the steering column through the bulkhead grommet.

Thanks Richard, a picture is worth 1000 words. That's what I expected the build guide meant, however I was concerned that the edge touching the chassis would wear the powder coat away. I assume as you have so many years experience with a Triking that you haven't found this an issue? Am I just over-thinking this/paranoid?

Hi Andy,
I don't know about so many years but the softer material IMHO is the gaiter. I haven't stripped out a covered one yet but I have an uncovered one and replaced the bearing as a consequence. Tricky job needing an internal puller. There is not a great deal of movement here either.

This is the Unit we have used. Bailcast Steering Boot kit DBSR200
Cut in the bottom of the valley with razor blade approximately three rings.
It is possible to use the narrow end with some trimming as a steering column / bulkhead grommet.
