Swinging Arm Lubrication.

Thanks go to Axle for this modification.

10,000 miles ago, I did this job, but without the rear mudguard to help prevent water and grit getting near to the swinging arm, the benefit was lost.

Purpose: To permit regular greasing of the swinging arm taper roller bearings.
Drill a blind hole in the centre of the pivot pins.
Tap the open end of hole m6 to take a grease nipple.
Drill a radial hole in the pin to be between position of grease seal and bearing.
Once re-assembled, grease pumped in will fill the cavity behind the bearing and then force a certain amount out past the seal to help fend off the outside world.
That’s fine on the drive side of the swinging arm as the cavity behind the bearing is closed off.
On the left-hand side, there is the long cross tube. To get over this, I primed with grease and then filled the bulk of the tube with an appropriate sized piece of round wood to create a ‘full’ cavity.
To keep the behind-seat-area clean, I remove the grease nipples and replace with m6 button heads.
Ready for regular servicing!
