Brake pad rattle

I am up to 900 miles on the Triking and everything is going well. There are a couple of questions that maybe some of you have experience with.

1. I have a brake pad rattle that occurs at over 3000 rpm. Both the left and the right caliper have the inside pads rattle against the calipers. Have any of you had this happen and if so, how did you resolve it? It doesn't seem to be causing any issues but the sound is annoying. It doesn't happen during braking only when I am off the brakes and the rpm is 3000 or higher.

2. After how many years of ownership to you stop noticing all the heads turn as you drive by? Its kind of amusing to look at people's faces as you drive by. The questions you get when you stop are usually the same. My favorite question is: "What is that small little lever next to the shifter?" Answer: Four Wheel Drive! I may have to print up and laminate a FAQ sheet and leave it on the tunnel when I leave it parked.

Thanks
Ivan

I have not had rattle but I did have major squeaking that turned heads for the wrong reason and the cure may be the same perhaps. I found some 3M disc pad sticky backed plastic these are doing the same job as the plates that used to be fitted with pads back in the day. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SELF-ADHESIV ... SwryBahw1M

Rattle is healthy but I agree is annoying. Richards pads system will certainly help in a similar way to shimming however my solution is:
Make sure the caliper is set centrally to the disc, use copper grease on the back of the pads and after fitting bow out the split pins to reduce for and aft float. In the picture it looks like the caliper is not central but it is.

Spaniard - 1. What does it sound like when they rattle- -s it a high pitched chattering noise ?
2. There must be dozens of blurry photos of "Bluebottle" out there that have been taken by people on their phones as they pass me by.

Thanks everyone. I will try some of the suggestions and see if they work for me.

Eric, the brake pad rattle sounds like a heat shield rattle on an old catalytic converter. It’s quite annoying but doesn’t seem to be causing any issues.

Thanks, Ivan - to be honest I'm not sure what "heat shield rattle in an old catalytic converter" sounds like - mine is a rapid "chattering" noise, and is usually accompanied by me having to press harder on the accelerator, because there seems to be some braking occurring at the front wheels. I chamfered the front edges of the brake pads slightly, but that didn't seem to make any difference.

It’s a metallic rattle that sounds like a lot of old cars that has something that rattles when you rev it up. Sorry for the poor description. I can’t for the life of me think of a better description of the rattle. I just picked up some disc brake quiet and will post the results. I will fiat try the bent pin suggestion.

Update:
I recently applied some Disc Brake Quiet, that I purchased at the auto parts store, to the back of the pads on the front calipers. The difference is significant. At first the rattle was 100% gone but they it came back but only slightly. I think I will give it another try and let the product cure before reinstalling the pads in the calipers.

I think the 3m backing product will work much better but I was at the auto parts store and saw the disc brake quiet product and decided to give it a try.

Thanks for the advise.

Well Ivan, you were quicker than me to sort it out. It took four years until I found the 3M.
