Blanking off the oil return to sump

Evening all
I’m attempting to plumb in the engine at the moment, and I’m looking at the breather/oil return system.
I’ve noticed several people have done away with the original plastic box, either for a nicer version from Alan or the cheap catch-cans available from the sites that take all our money in the name of our hobby. Indeed, a couple of people strongly recommended using a pair of cans instead, and I have a pair at the ready.
The question is - what do you do with the pipe that returns oil to the sump, if your catch-cans aren’t connected? Is it ok to just blank it with a plug somehow, or does it need to be vented?
Currently my plan is to put a pancake filter on the breather from the throttle bodies and run the head breather pipes back to a can on each side, but that leaves the sump connector looking a bit… dangly….
What has anybody else done with it?
Alex
