Interloper!…

Afraid I sneaked in.

I don’t have a Triking.

Sorry! 😱

I have an Aero Merlin from Arthur Rayner. (Who sadly died not long later).

Should I get my coat?

I already had a T3 Moto Guzzi engine and bought the kit.

I have Avon SM Mk II tyres (4.00 H19) front and similar rear (4.00 H18) on spoked wheels.

Not entirely sure what pressures to run them on?

Would welcome suggestions? Or where best to start?

Look forward to reading all you experienced Triking owners have to say!

David!

Welcome David, hey, you have 3 wheels, that's a good start. Sad about Arthur.
Feel free to browse the forum, search bar works well.
Tony
Advice about rear tyres anyone?

Many thanks for the welcome! 👍

Yes, Arthur was trying to sell the business when he knew he had terminal cancer, I don’t think he managed or whether it was sold later?

He bought quite a few old cars in his last year, he’d always wanted so was enjoying himself! Including I think an original 3 wheel Morgan.

Welcome to the forum, and welcome to your Merlin!

There'll be a negligibly bigger contact patch with 19s and the Merlin's roughly the same weight as the Triking, so I reckon pressures would be similar.

I run 14 PSI front, 24 rear but on a 15in car tyre. The bike tyre version takes 30-ish psi in the rear (33psi comes to mind) so start from there perhaps?

I also have a similar-weight three-wheeler with 19in Avon square-profile tyres (but cruder suspension), and run the rear on that at 35psi, so it's going to be in that ballpark.

Many thanks for your response, Throwley! 👍

I had previously read figures in the region of the 14psi you mention and really given the type of tyres I was thinking that seemed rather low?

As you say the 33 psi front and 35 psi rear mention seem nearer the mark to me. So I will, as you say, start in that region!

And play with them!

I did send an Email to Avon, with the weights etc, but suspected they wouldn’t commit themselves! Very prompt response to be fair but of course they wouldn’t commit.

AGAIN many thanks!

David.

Take care David, if you put 33psi in those 400x19 front tyres, you won't stand a cat in hell's chance of stopping on a wet road.
14psi on the fronts please.

Thanks for that WEG - it’s what I’ve been finding a great deal of confusion!

I have used them on 18psi after what someone else had said elsewhere but always wondered if they should be more. Hence my asking! 🤔

I need to organise an MOT then I’ll see thereafter when I can use it properly!

I’ve actually had it for a few years and MOT’D it then and ran it at around 15/19 psi, but I was ill so haven’t used it until now! And didn’t use it much then! Only done 280 or so miles! Wanting to get some use out of it! 🙄😂

eeek! No! I said 14 in the front. And somewhere around 33-35 in the rear.

Don't try the 33 in the fronts, it'll be like driving on ice, and not in a good way.
