I would like to add a set of panniers to my Type 1 and just can’t find the space. I think the logical thing would be to lower the exhaust right after the cross-over and place them just forward of the windscreen. If anyone has lowered their exhaust and is aware of a aftermarket adapter/ S pipe to drop the exhaust please let me know. I’m sure I can have a shop make up something but it wouldn’t be chromed. Another option would be to alter the panniers but that would give up part or the already small storage area.
Thanks in advance for sharing you experience.
Lowering exhaust for panniers TYPE 1
Re: Lowering exhaust for panniers TYPE 1
My method would be self-fabrication using a pair of 135deg stainless bends tig welded together into a stretched S shape.
I dropped the pipes on Clarissa to get under the doors by making brooklands style silencers, but they would probably come in the place where you want the paniers.

Re: Lowering exhaust for panniers TYPE 1
I left the exhaust where they were and reshaped the panniers which are also quick release.

I did the same as Doverhay, having fabricated some from ally sheet. Mounted exhaust wrap on inside of pannier near exhaust but airflow minimises any heat soak.
