Type 3 build

Post by Tamos » Tue Mar 19, 2019 7:15 pm

Have got chassis set up on trestles in garage and started build. Had a few problems with the rear brake bracket but Alan is making a new one to suit. Couldn’t resist fitting front suspension, went together easily and looks great. Decided to fit a rear mudguard to keep that area cleaner, bought a plastic one from Trident Trailers for £12 that seems just right. Made up the stays today, with a clearance of 80mm between wheel and mudguard to allow for maximum travel of suspension.
Tried to post photos of progress but it came up as error - am not very good with iPad so will ask my neighbour for help!

Another pic. Stays are now painted ready to fit. Next job is to apply sealant to all areas that could trap moisture.

Tamos,
Like your build.
While you are in and around this area, think how you will store all the luggage that you will carry. Maximise the storage space, bearing in mind that you will have to acquire lots of stuff em bags. Also what tools you will need during running, a thought now will leave space for the bottle of bubbly. lol
It is not acceptable to ask the navigator sit in and then pack your toothbrush etc around them effectively preventing their movement. Makes for a happy passenger if you stick it in the boot.

Thanks Bill, will bear your comments in mind although do not plan to use car for long trips or touring as, unfortunately, my wife’s general health means she is not able to get in such a vehicle. I will probably get more enjoyment building the car than driving it, but look forward to regular outings around Kent, and to any gatherings that are within reasonable distance (can trailer car if necessary).
Decided today to start sealing anywhere where moisture could get trapped, using the black stuff supplied with the kit, plus a brushable underseal to get to places where can’t use mastic gun. Have not enjoyed doing it but have got all areas done in the seating areas, at the back behind the bulkhead and around the sw/arm area, anywhere needed ahead of the front bulkhead, and anywhere in the tunnel that you can get to from above. Tomorrow or Monday will turn chassis upside down and do the underside.
Despite much scrubbing, I currently have the hands of a coal miner!!

Tamos,
Not one for health and safety.
Go outside and select an area away from anything flammable, then use neat petrol to wash your hands.
Then wash your hands outside in the garden with a bucket of hot water and washing up liquid.
Petrol is an amazing solvent for sealants and glues etc
be careful
