Windscreen washers
Windscreen washers
For those who have wipers fitted to your Triking:
Do you also fit washers? I can't see any obvious ones fitted in the various photos
If not, how do you manage the annual UK MOT?
Thanks
Rob

Re: Windscreen washers
Hi Rob
You'll need washers for the MOT. I've done mine with an electric pump and long hose to a nozzle on the bonnet. The long hose enables you to lift the bonnet up and detach the hose from the nozzle - it's a plastic hose so easily pushed on and off. I set mine some distance along the bonnet as I used a single fitting with two outlets. Close up below to show the nozzle on my old Triking.

Re: Windscreen washers
Rob
Definitely fit washers.
When you get sprayed with road filth you will need them.
I fitted a generic electric unit with 2 nozzles. Switched on the dash with 2 position switch. Wiper, wash/wipe.

Re: Windscreen washers
Thanks for the tips. I was thinking of using "on arm" washers but the ones slightly angled under the wiper arm look a good solution. Fortunately I have nearly 3 years until the first MOT!

Re: Windscreen washers
You may well need them well before the mot is due
Re: Windscreen washers
From the MOT manual...
You do not need to inspect windscreen wipers on vehicles with:
an opening windscreen
some other means of giving the driver an adequate view through the windscreen to the front, left and right
From Construction and Use...
Windscreen wipers and washers
34.—(1) Subject to paragraphs (4) and (5), every vehicle fitted with a windscreen shall, unless the driver can obtain an adequate view to the front of the vehicle without looking through the windscreen, be fitted with one or more efficient automatic windscreen wipers capable of clearing the windscreen so that the driver has an adequate view of the road in front of both sides of the vehicle and to the front of the vehicle.
(2) Save as provided in paragraphs (3), (4) and (5), every wheeled vehicle required by paragraph (1) to be fitted with a wiper or wipers shall also be fitted with a windscreen washer capable of cleaning, in conjunction with the windscreen wiper, the area of the windscreen swept by the wiper of mud or similar deposit
Might be just a Type 1 thing, but testers have judged that they have adequate view over the screen, so don't look at the wipers or the lack of washers on mine.

Re: Windscreen washers
Hi all,
On my trike I started with Brookland screens which were useless especially in Scottish weather!!or when being washed by an artic unit.
I then fitted a wind deflector that allows me to look over to see the road and dodge behind in very heavy rain. I also have end defectors to deflect wind birling round the ends.
The MOT man is quite happy and passes it without comment.

Re: Windscreen washers
If anyone was interested, attached photo shows screen washer fitted to T4. Works reasonably well and the washer design allows lots of adjustment to the jets. Thanks Tony for the idea.
