Modifying a KENDON Fold-up Trailer to accept a T4 trike

Post by frederick » Tue Mar 09, 2021 10:01 pm

Being short on garage/ storage space I upgraded my Kendon Solo stand-up for a barely used Kendon ATV/UTV trailer found online.

The magic of these trailers is they not only fold up virtually in half but also stand up on castors which enables them to be moved around, pushed into a convenient spot and left standing on end vertically.

This model is just long enough to hold a T4 but the rear tire is right at the rear end of the deck. My solution was to have two front wheel pockets welded into the front frame rails to not only get the rear tire securely on the deck but shift the trailer CG slightly forward.

I haven't done the math but the T2/T3 may fit without alterations if your wheelbase is a bit shorter and will fit comfortably the 6' x 9' Flat deck area. (182cm x 274cm)

The ramps that come with the Kendon are overkill designed for a 2000 lb vehicle and incredibly heavy. My solution was to put them on CraigsList (or whatever free online classifieds you have access to), realizing enough $ to pick up a second set of these ramps:

Needing three you will need to order a second set. I already had one for my motorcycles, having sold the duplicate to a friend at my cost.

I fabricated simple padded arms on the trailer sides to mount 2 of the 3 folding aluminum ramps, the third lives on the tongue where the stock ramps were mounted. Ramps are held in place by superbungies: https://superbungee.com/

Haven't test loaded the trike yet (have to soon for DMV inspection), but THAT will have to wait until I finish working out minor electrical build bugs and get the trike completely dialed in.

Here is what it looks like standing up parked and wearing its 3 fold up ramps.
