NOVA reverse gearbox oil
NOVA reverse gearbox oil
Am I correct in putting 120cc of ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) in the NOVA reversing gearbox?
What about some SAE5 fully synthetic engine oil?
I am thinking along the lines of light-weight oil for minimal drag - especially when all is cold.

I don't know if this helps but this is from their web site Ian:
Lubrication is by splash and requires 120ml of any multipurpose ATF or light engine oil; (5W-40). A level plug and magnetic drain plug are also included.
They don't mention synthetic and I don't know the equivalent I'm afraid.

I will go with ATF.
The box is a tad expensive to make a mistake with!

Re: NOVA reverse gearbox oil
Several of us run the overflow pipe to up by the petrol tank and end in a bottle. I have used a Redex bottle as it fits between suspension support and tank. The old hair dye bottles with flat sides were good but the manufacturer changed the design going to round ones. [No not me I don't have enough hair to dye]. The end of the tube is in the bottom so expanded oil returns to box.

Re: NOVA reverse gearbox oil
I was advised to use 90ep oil in the reverse box

Re: NOVA reverse gearbox oil
The lighter grade oil may be ok for racing, but for longevity, and for the type of driving normally done by ourselves, the heavier grade would be more beneficial.
But heyho, I guess any oil is better than no oil

Re: NOVA reverse gearbox oil
Bearing in mind the amount of backlash in the Nova box, perhaps the thicker oils would be better for us more leisurely drivers.
