Tyres

Post by el grifo » Tue Jul 30, 2019 8:32 pm

Hi folks,
Just discovered my front Mitas tyres are cracking at the bottom of the outer rain groove.Tyres show no visible wear. This is the second set,the first ones went the same way about the same mileage.
Has anyone discovered better tyres they can reccomend? Heidenau have been mentioned on various forums, has anyone tried these and if so what size 3,50/400? I rather like the skinny tyre look but have only used the 400 size so far.
Best regards,
Malcolm J.

I had the same problem with Mitas, rubbish.
Heidenau 400x18 fitted 8700 miles ago, still got 3mm on inside and 6mm outside near to wear indicator. Camber angle does lean in a bit.
Must be time to get a new pair.
Thoroughly recommended, grip gives confidence wet or dry.

I also have Heidenau 400 x 18 and like them but I have not tried anything else. Wet weather grip seems good. Wet weather brakes is a different story.

I have tryed the Haidenau ( the tyre is very loud, and rubish if it‘s wet). After this expirience I went back to the Avon SM 400x18.

I’ve used quite a few makes of tyres, Avon SM, Pirelli Sport and a few others I can’t recall the names of🤔; However, I’m currently on Michelin Pilots, recommended by Musseler Mark, and I must say the road holding is the best so far, the wear rate looks good so far after around a 1000 miles. The Avon SM’s had an exceptional wear rate, but unlike Axel I couldn’t get the grip I wanted (perhaps it’s because I don’t run the camber angle Axel does 🥴)

Hi,
I do not run a Triking but a three wheel front wheel drive home build, and in the first instance used Michelin motorcycle tyres. These lasted for a year as the wear was around the tyre centre, a trike does not lean over as a bike does. I tried another set and they lasted the same around 300miles.
I then changed over to Loadstone tyres that are designed for "Austin Sevens" and after two years they are showing little sign of wear or buffing at the extreme edges.

Use motorcycle rear tyres, as Bill states, if you use motorcycle fronts with the centre groove these will wear very quickly. It’s a bit of a balance between grip and wear, also what suits your driving style.
