Need Advice

Post by EricStarmer » Mon Aug 12, 2019 7:10 pm

I've registered to display my Triking at the "All British Field Meet" in Portland, Oregon (more than 800 cars on display). My new "transporter" will make this a lot better as far as getting there.

Apparently I have the option of displaying it with the "Other" cars, meaning ones that nobody's heard of, or with the Morgans, since it's a "loose" Morgan replica - they don't have an area for kit cars. I'm having a hard time deciding - I'm leaning towards being with the Morgans (I'm sure there will be a number of three wheelers, old and new, plus 4 wheelers), as at least I'll have more in common with them than assorted obscure cars. However , I'm not sure of ettiquette - I don't want them upset with me masquerading as a Morgan, especially when my car is better :) .

What are your thoughts ?

That's a tricky one but I would be inclined to go for the other cars section on the basis that they're likely to be more friendly than some of the Morgan owners I've met and you'll have a better day all round. The Triking engineering and quality speaks for itself so it will undoubtedly be the star of the other cars section whereas if you're in the Morgan section you might have to justify your presence more. However, you do know your fellow American enthusiasts better than we do....

I like your transporter design a lot by the way, it's cool! 8-)

Thanks for your input, Dave. On thinking about it some more, I think you're right, especially since there's a People's Choice award for Morgans, and it would be ironic and embarrassing (but also cool :) ), if by some fluke, I won it.
I'll stick with the "Others" - might even stand a chance of winning something there......

Been there done that LOL
Took my Plymouth Prowler to a classic car show in Calgary and parked in the Chrysler area. Was told to bugger off as not a real Chrysler.
Took my series 1 Triking to a different classic meet parked in a non specific make area and won peoples choice.
Guess there is justice.
Don't think I would park with the Morgans.

If they have categories for motorcycles, you may consider entering it in the custom/specialty construction class. Each year down here at the Carmel Quail Motorcycle Gathering one or two Morgan 3 wheelers will show on the field, usually with a crowd around.

Thanks, Frederick - never thought of that, although, again, like the Morgan category, if I did win something in the motorcycle category I might get a little blowback from the bikers. I think I'm going to stick with the "Post 1980's -Others" category - that sounds pretty safe, and after all, at the only other car show (local) that I took part in, I won First prize in the "Post 1980's" category.

I'm hoping that when a bunch of people over here actually discover that the Triking exists it will lead to a few more orders for Alan and maybe some local Trikingistas that I can hang out with - better get a bigger shed, Alan :D
