2020 Annual Meetup
2020 Annual Meetup
I'm not sure how these things are decided. but would anybody be interested in having next year's meet up at Buxton in the Peak District. It's an interesting Roman Spa town and the roads and scenery in the surrounding Peak District are simply fabulous.
I was thinking of the last weekend in May and would be trying to obtain enough rooms for everybody in a large hotel, hopefully, within walking distance of the town centre.
Let me know if you are interested and/or what sort of activities you would like to have.

Re: 2020 Annual Meetup
No guide lines yet as asked for in your initial note Guy so here's my pennyworth having only been involved on the periphery so far:
Areas of interest to both Driver and Passenger certainly on the Sunday or an option where those who wanted could be dropped off on the way to the Triking interest site.
It is important to mention in advance when there is a cost involved for a visit/ entertainment in order for crews to make a choice and advise the organiser in advance as this may impact on group entry fee.
Not too long a run without a break and a bun.
Not too fast as the tail end charlie has to race to catch up and misses the point of the run.
Alternatives if really bad weather
To my knowledge eight Triking events have been organised since I joined the fray nearly nine years ago so there is a wealth of information out there so come on you previous organisers fill Guy in with the griff please.

Re: 2020 Annual Meetup
Clare and I would be up for it, it gives me a target to get the new Triking built by so fingers crossed..
I would avoid a Bank holiday weekend as the Peak District can get rammed depending on weather...

Re: 2020 Annual Meetup
I'm off to look at hotels tomorrow, will try and avoid avoid the Bank Holiday weekend.
Buxton Town Centre, The Pavillion Gardens and Poole Caverne are all close by so wet weather possibilities exist. Would be eternally grateful to hear of your ideas, thoughts, suggestions and past successes.

Hi Guy
Hope you your hotel hunting is going well, it’s not an easy task. We organised a well-supported meet in Shropshire in 2015 and found that midweek bookings, Tuesday to Thursday, were more easily obtained and gave lower cost plus the advantage of quieter driving roads than at the weekends.
Your choice of central location is suburb, giving lots of excellent driving. From our point of view this, together with the friendship of Triking owners is the main purpose of our meets.

Re: 2020 Annual Meetup
I agree the midweek meet is a good plan.
The 2015 Ironbridge/Shropshire meet was a great success, gathering on Wednesday with runs on Thurs/Fri giving participants the option of staying for the weekend.
Reserved parking was an added bonus at the superb hotel.
Good luck Guy.
