Tues 26th Feb
On the return journey from Al’s Tues pm, I could feel that the tracking wasn’t as it should be and must have bedded down a bit more.
Checked it when back home to find 5mm toe out.
Wed 27th Feb
Re-set the l/h caster angle to 5deg to match r/h,
Re-set tracking to 3mm toe in.
15ml road test. Re-check tracking, settled to 1mm toe out. Re-set to 4mm toe in.
10ml road test, check tracking, still 4mm toe in.
Thurs 28th Feb
30ml road test on some of my favourite, traffic free Huntingdonshire roads.
Brilliant.
Suspension worked superbly, ironing out the spine-chilling neglect of the road surface, which has been the purpose of this whole exercise.
Handling is superb with no hint of under or oversteer, nor bump-steer on bends.
Steering is light and sensitive giving confidence however I threw it into bends! Recovery to straight line good and predictable.

The settings are now:
Caster angle 5deg (lean back)
Camber angle 1deg (lean in)
Tracking 4mm toe in.

After the work Alan and Tony have done on the upgrade I decided to upgrade my T3. Parts arrived today and got straight onto it, test fit then remove to paint. Picture shows one side with original and the other side with the upgrade. A few mods to try and retain as much of the original parts to try and keep the cost down. More to follow.

New lower wishbones powder coated today, took them in at 10 this morning and picked up at 3 this afternoon, amazing turnaround.
Picture shows new and old wishbone to give you and idea of change. Now to see if it all goes together without any major problems.

Thanks for the info Tony.
What a transformation, the suspension just mops up the undulations in the road, no rattles or bangs from the front, it was heaven to drive. Ok the ride will never be like a Rolls, but it transforms the little Triking and for touring it’s a must.
I’ve used my original top wishbone; however, to get enough thread secured on the ball joint the car does resemble Axel’s aggressive camber angle😀, I think I will lengthen the threaded tube on the wishbone to allow for more adjustment or maybe go for the fully adjustable wishbone with the rose joints, still not decided; however, I am trying to keep the cost down. I Have lengthened the steering rod by adding a 1/2”unf nut a couple of washers to the joints between the extender and the tie rod ends, again this may have to be modified further if when the top wishbone is lengthened it may require more adjustment that the current thread length will accommodate.

Change of plan on the tie rod extension, I wasn’t happy with the original plan and now have extended with a 1/2” unf wheel space extender stud. This extends the tie rod by 1” and now have plenty of thread in all components and still have plenty of adjustment.

That's a great example of lateral thinking in more ways than one !
