Neutral light

Post by AndyR » Fri Dec 29, 2023 4:14 pm

My next question is about the neutral light which I am having a nightmare with!!!
I have replaced the sensor and swear that I tested the neutral light bulb first. Now the bulb is blown and I can't see how to get it out to replace it.
It appears that the donor bike dash has been chopped up and the lights glued to the dash. I have tried gently pulling but can't get the bulb out.
Again I have tried to load a pic and failed. Plastic holder with wires going into rubber end which I can't pull off.
Any ideas?!?!?

I would first check that the switch works using a separate bulb.
There is a live feed to the bulb which then earths out through the neutral switch to turn light on.
I'm not familiar with Jackal instruments but looks like you will have to drill out the bulb holder and start with a new one. Disconnect battery first. Just sayin.

As Tony says, best to rig up a test bulb to check the switch actually works first. If you're in the UK, Car Builder Solutions have a good selection of warning lights so you might get one that's a close match to your existing ones.

SUCCESS!!!!!!

I have a working neutral light!

The bulb did come out of the dash with a lot of pulling and levering with a flat head screwdriver. I then set up a test circuit and fitted and re-fitted the replacement switch (bending it slightly more each time) and finally it works. I the had to trace and add wires as it's quite clear the original builder didn't even attempt to wire this in.

A few more items on the dash with missing wiring, but making good progress.

Thanks for your suggestions guys!

Andy

PS - can anyone tell me how I can upload pics to the forum. I would love to show off my custom gear shift cover etc

Including pictures is easy.
Under this 'Post reply' box there are 2 tabs, Options & Attachments.
Click attachments.
Click 'Add file'
That will take you to your filing system.
Choose a picture, this must be below 512Kb. (picture editing may be needed)
It will then appear in a line as file name under the Add file box. Green tick will appear on the right if it is accepted.
Click place inline to get it to appear under your text then SUBMIT

Hi AndyR,
If you need to reduce the size of your photos, in the current and past issues of Trifles, right at the end is how to reduce the size of any picture to the 512 size needed. This needs to be done first and saved in your picture as a small version.

FORUM: Picture resizing.
If you are using the forum and want to put a picture on your message or post here is a useful site for
resizing your photos: http://www.picresize.com/
Once on site choose BROWSE then lift a photo from your file
When done press the long Blue box below marked ‘CONTINUE to edit picture’.
At this point you can choose to crop, rotate or special effect. I just go straight to the box on the bottom
right marked MAX FILE SIZE and enter 500 and
Press ‘I’m done resize my picture’.
Press VIEW MY IMAGE and save this file to your pictures file. It will be given a prefix ‘rsz-‘ This is the file you
upload to the forum.
