Girling/Triumph front brake calipers
Girling/Triumph front brake calipers
Hi, I mounted 2 new Girling/Triumph front brake calipers with Ferodo pads. Braking power is very poor.
I have seen more owners have mounted them, so any advise on this matter would be most welcome.
Greetz Hans.

Re: Girling/Triumph front brake calipers
Hello Hans,
Which model Triking do you have?
Year of manufacture and engine number would be helpful.
The peoblem with braking may lie with the master cylinders.
Very difficult to know what size they are without removing and stripping, too much work I think.
If the balance bar is not set up correctly, you may be getting too much pressure to the rear and not enough to the front.
Picture of the pedal box from above would help.

Type 2, year and enginenumber follow later. It has the simple type of balancebar, just a pin with a longer and shorter end.
If I would disconnect the rear cilinder, it should be ok or better?

I meant to ask you for year and CHASSIS number, please. (Helps to find any history)
Is the short piece of balance bar connected to the rear or front master cylinder?

Gd morning Tony,
pics are in the album https://www.flickr.com/photos/33424105@N05/?
Brakes must have worked in tis setting with the original calipers. Master caliper says Girling 3/4 and chassisnumber is R13919422.

Re: Girling/Triumph front brake calipers
Hi Hans, thanks for info.
Great pictures, superb bodywork.
The r/h master cyl has the solid pipe which is usually used going to the rear, l/h cyl has the flexy which goes to front. Correct?
Looking at the picture in the tunnel, it appears the shorter side of balance bar is on the right, which is going to the rear.
I presume you have not driven the Triking much since you have had it and changed the front callipers due to poor braking. It is possible that the brakes have never been good.
Reversing the balance bar to put shorter side to the front m/cyl is worth considering.
Good luck
Tony

Re: Girling/Triumph front brake calipers
It is the other way around, right cil is for the front brakes.
I assume 3/4 is the size, should that be ok?

Re: Girling/Triumph front brake calipers
Ok, solid pipe goes to front.
The 3/4 (size in inches) should be fine, a 5/8 (.62) would be better but not worth changing.
Could it be that you need to get out on the road and bed the brakes in.
How many miles have you done?

Re: Girling/Triumph front brake calipers
Remember not to try brakes hard for at least 100 miles or you will glaze the pads and that will give poor braking as well.
Re: Girling/Triumph front brake calipers
Less than one miles, only around the parking block. I'll give it a try, thanks!
