Engine temp difference
Hallo,
Good news from the Netherlands, I have got my Triking type 3 running.
Thanks Richard for the electrical plan , that was the right plan.
Now I have 2 questions
1st: the reverse gear box is very hard to get in to forward gear, does it need any adjusting?
2nd: the right hand side cilindercover is getting more hot than the left hand side cover.
Is this due to good balancing the carbs?

My experience with the reverse gearbox is to not attempt a change unless the car is actually slowly moving forwards or backwards. I try to preempt which way I next want to go before parking and switching off. Hope this helps.

The reverse box is a 'Knack' my first experience was so poor I asked Alan to take a look. He got in my car and it all worked perfectly! Amazed, I developed the 'Knack' quickly.
It does bed in however and as 'Widdup' says it helps to pre-empt your move off when parking.

This how I do it:
Put in first gear – keep clutch in
Move into reverse whilst just letting the clutch bite – you will feel it going into gear
The same method is used to put back into forward
The reverse gear box is very simple – they are straight cut or “dog” gears, which are very strong. Gears in modern cars are helical and mesh together much more easily.

Thanks for the tips concerning the gearbox”knack” Richard and Widdup
I am still a bit anxious concerning the temperature of the valvecover on the right hand side,
As I have no experience with the Moto Guzzi engines.
Any advice or ideas are welcome
I will do a complete service on the engine and gearbox , fresh oils etc

Have you checked the oil level?
Checked the valve clearances?
Balancing the carbs is a good idea. I bought a pair of gauges on advice from Mark.
Are the plugs the same rating?

Henk, the reverse box will grow on you.
Check the plugs are running the same colour, if not mixture problem.
Check also for leaks on the inlet manifolds.
May be prudent to do a compression check.

Is your timing set correctly, and done in the right (set gaps; time right D cyl first, move distributor to adjust; left S cyl second, move points plate to adjust) order?
