Type 1 Thread sizes

Post by Mike iow » Sat Jul 24, 2021 7:49 pm

Hi All

Just joined the group after picking up a Type 1 a couple of weeks ago. She needs a complete rebuild, engine not a problem for me as served my time in the motorcycle industry as a motorcycle engineering.

Now the questions.
I presume the front suspension top bolts should be 1/2" with a UNF thread and not 12mm threaded bar one side and 1/2" threaded bar the other size.
Lower engine bolts Metric as the Guzzi Motor is all metric, again threaded rod has been used.
One other question regarding the rear wheel clearence, I have a 15" spoke wheel with car tyre fitted, the clearance is very tight to the rear body cover 1/4" is this enough?

Look forward to some answers so many thanks

Regards
Mike

From Axel in Germany answered on Fadebook [sic]:

You are right, all four suspension bolts are 1/2“ UNF, all engine bolts are metric.

The wishbone bushes are Lotus type, the bearing on top are from a Triumph Spitfire, the lower one‘s are Reliant Kitten, but no longer available. If they are worn out, send them to Alan, he can repair them.
