Fuse box

Post by Skeomorph » Fri Jul 02, 2021 2:41 pm

Hi All,

I'm thinking about what's needed for the electrics in a Triking; it would be really nice to have a fuse box that includes sockets for the relays. I'm wondering what others have used? Is there a basic car that has a panel suitable for the minimal needs, or have people used any of the generic panels such as https://www.amazon.co.uk/Blade-Relay-Co ... B01MST6X2W? It seems over kill but does look very neat.

Thoughts?

That looks quite good value and could be sensibly mounted on top of the glove box.
I used AES components (https://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/home) they a very comprehensive range of most things you could possibly need.

Do you have a copy of the Triking wiring diagram? Let me know if you would like one.

Several of the larger boxes bought and tested for size and convenience but this is what I decided upon [there are other options]:-)

Picture one underside of fuse box
Pic 2 Fuses
Pic 3 Position of relay board alongside glove box and fuse box on the front.
Pic 4 Relay board. I could have used smaller gang blocks.
Relays: Flasher, Twin horns, Hooter and Brake light switch. Been through three in eleven years on Squeaker one answer is to put a relay in.

Silver shaft showing is a Trigger hand brake which is the dog's biscuits and makes the hand brake most effective, easier to operate for a taller person and no need close enough to get thumb on the end to press a button. Magnificent quality too. Designed by the second best three-wheeler designer Richard Oakes. [Al number one].

Thanks to all for sharing your solutions. It looks like you've all been happy with the solutions you chose.

Tony, I don't have a copy of the Triking wiring diagram, I've been trying to work one out from the Moto Guzzi diagram and the one for my car. A copy would be appreciated otherwise I'm likely to miss something...

Richard, I already have one of those handbrake levers on my shopping list :D . I had no idea it (or the Blackjack 3 wheelers) was Richard Oakes handiwork. Back in the day I really wanted a Rossa K3 and a Libre, he's been responsible for some fine cars.

Cheers.

The Trigger hand brake is the 'Clubman' model and you will need to make up a cable. Carrot cycles. https://carrotcycles.co.uk/custom-made-cables.html or Venhill https://www.venhill.co.uk/ Beware the Venhill site, so many lovely tools. Drool drool. Vehicle wiring products https://www.vehiclewiringproducts.co.uk ... -cable-kit
If you need sizes let me know.

This is what I used.

https://www.motogadget.com/shop/en/m-unit-basic.html

The motogadet M-unit comes with and without blue tooth. The M-unit is a solid state controller for lights, horn, turn signals ( auto canceling option), starter, brake lights, flasher, etc. The blue tooth version allows you to not have a traditional key and allows you to program in service reminders in the app. It does away with all the relays and fuses that complicate wiring. Integrates nicely into the Guzzi wiring harness. I still have two fuses and two relays that control the fuel injection system but that's it. I am sure I could have deleted them too but it was easier to leave them in. This is by far the easiest wiring of a motor vehicle I have ever done.

It will let you know if a bulb has failed. If you get a short it will kill the power to that circuit and once you correct the short it will reset when you cycling the power. It seemed expensive at first but once I had it, it was clear it was a time / money saver.

I was looking for a picture I had and can't seem to find it but I believe I posted a pic of it a few years back.

That's a really impressive gadget. I had no idea such a product existed, I shall investigate further. Thanks for posting this suggestion.
