drivetrain alignment

Hi All
My first post so be gentle...
I have started by T4 build and am enjoying the challenge :D
As suggested in the build guide, I have installed the reversing box and connected the front and rear drive shafts.
I've then put the rear subframe on and hung the CARC on it, and connected everything up.
Took some jiggling in order to get things to line up and slot the splines together, so I was pleased to get this far.
The whole train turns smoothly with no noise ...HOWEVER, when the CARC is at the bottom of its travel the UJs clunk and stop turning.
There's clearly interference somewhere, by the sounds of it where the rear shaft passed through the bulkhead and into the CARC.
I can't see anyway of adjusting this out of the system though.
The shaft is centred on the hole nicely (although it emerges at an angle because of the alignment of the box and suspension).
Any ideas please??
Cheers,
Bob

What limits the travel on a CARC system?
Good luck

The geometry of the swing arm. The shock is disconnected

The shocker is more likely to limit min/max travel than the swinging arm.
Determine where those points are and you may have the answer.
Good luck.

Hence my question Bob,
Tony has nailed it as the shocker limits the top and bottom positions.

Yes I agree
I’m going off the build notes though which say disconnect the shock and test it then...

Bob,

Hope all is progressing well and that you have sorted out the drivetrain issue, I found getting the best alignment quite a long process of trial and error.
I've recently completed my Type 4 build sorting out various issues,(with Alan's help), along the way.
Please feel free to contact me if there is anything I might be able to help with, including MSVA test preparations.

Best wishes,
Mark

Finding the best alignment is very subjective, isn't it? There's no "one size fits all" type of a setting, right?
