Evening all
I’m attempting to plumb in the engine at the moment, and I’m looking at the breather/oil return system.
I’ve noticed several people have done away with the original plastic box, either for a nicer version from Alan or the cheap catch-cans available from the sites that take all our money in the name of our hobby. Indeed, a couple of people strongly recommended using a pair of cans instead, and I have a pair at the ready.
The question is - what do you do with the pipe that returns oil to the sump, if your catch-cans aren’t connected? Is it ok to just blank it with a plug somehow, or does it need to be vented?
Currently my plan is to put a pancake filter on the breather from the throttle bodies and run the head breather pipes back to a can on each side, but that leaves the sump connector looking a bit… dangly….
What has anybody else done with it?
Alex
Blanking off the oil return to sump
Re: Blanking off the oil return to sump
It's blanked on mine. I run a simple vent system with just crankcase pressure through the standard vent Non Return Valve and piped away. And keep a regular check on oil level.
Re: Blanking off the oil return to sump
Thanks Throwley. What have you blocked off the sump inlet with?
Re: Blanking off the oil return to sump
A stub of fuel hose with an Allen bolt rammed in the end of it, hose-clipped to the spigot on the crankcase!
Such a cheapskate solution that I was hoping you weren't going to ask

Haha! That’s my kind of solution, thank you! I just wanted to check someone else had done that too!
