Where the Pavement Ends

Post by EricStarmer » Wed Jun 12, 2019 8:32 pm

Got myself a new Gopro, with video stabilization, as my other one was at least 10 years old, and not so good. Drove some local backroads to try it out, and the video is definitely smoother (would probably be smoother still if I had the "comfort front suspension"). A lot of local roads are sparsely populated, but paved for several miles and then turn to gravel (pavement in the US means "tarmac/asphalt" -US "sidewalk" means UK "pavement". Since I know from experience that a Triking on gravel is like a giraffe on an ice rink (at least mine is - I have the original bike wheel/tyre in the rear), I usually turn around "where the pavement ends".

Look for the squirrel that nearly lost it's life, and the flock of rare pink flamingos !

Apologies to Tony Dawson for stealing every aspect of his videos, but they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery ;)

Top stuff Eric.
Empty roads, sunshine, good soundtrack. Any excuse!
Is that a GoPro7?
What mounting are you using?
Nice double soundtrack editing, what software are you using? I’m on VideoPad by NCH.

We’ve just had several days of rain so stopped play for a while.

Thanks, Tony . I have a Gopro 6 Black. The 7 apparently has better stabilization, but I didn't want to pay the extra $80-$100, and the 6 seems pretty good. By "double soundtrack", I'm not sure whether you mean the two songs or the fact that you can hear the engine and the music at the same time. This was my first attempt at adding music to a video - the engine/music soundtrack was completely by accident - I just hit the "add music" button, and that's what I got, so I left it. I'm using Windows Movie Maker, which is pretty simple and does what I need to do.
I notice that even though I upload my videos to YouTube in HD (1920 x 1080), they still seem to lose a fair amount of clarity relative to the "raw" footage. Apparently the speed of one's internet connection can affect this, and since my upload speed is typically less than 0.5 Megs/sec, maybe that's why.
Am adding a photo of my mount - I paid about $18 for some Gopro accessories on Amazon, and got about 40 various bits and pieces, some of which I still don't know what they are, but I used a couple of bits from there to make it - actually a pretty good deal, as it has things I can use when snorkeling and wing suit flying (just joking about the wing suit) :)
