Triking Pilots Challenge June

Post by Richard and Pat » Mon Jun 03, 2019 8:38 pm

Good evening Trikingistas,
This month's Challenge is 'Pub names' No repetition though. One White Horse at a time is enough I cannot accept a whole herd. One white Horse, one Black one, One Dun Cow Etc.. ;)
Have a good month and remember only 8 weeks to the National Rally.

Well, Richard, will you take responsibility if my beer intake spikes during the month of June ?

Unfortunately, the superb sign of a dog in a doublet has gone off for repainting.
If anyone can find another of this breed, I'm sure you will get double bonus points.

Gee, Richard, this is a tough one in Oz. Unlike English pubs, our pubs evolved much later, usually as an encampment somewhere became more of a village, in which case the pub took the name of the village. Boring! When a second pub became viable, it was invariably the Commercial, the (Queen) Victoria, or the Royal. Very boring. After that, the Station, the Railway, the Corner, or the proprietor's name took care of most subsequent pubs.

So we don't have a "Hampshire Bowman", a "Shoulder of Mutton", or a "Black Amoor", just to rattle off three of my UK favourites. Let me think on this a bit.........

How about any word with pub in it JFerg? Public Amenity, public Library???
On another subject I am running low on articles for the Trifles Triking newsletter fancy sending a few words from Oz? A trip, a build tip, a meeting, what you like about Triking in Oz. Send words and pics and I'll PUBlish them. ;-)

Bit of a mystery how this pub begot it’s name, as it is in Ramsey, Hunts (not IofM).
About 35mls from ‘The Wash’.
However, the most inland tidal point of the River Nene at The Dog in a Doublet (yes that pub again) sluice, is only 10mls away.
