Has anyone fitted the RAM single clutch plate upgrade that is available from Gutsibits for Moto Guzzi big twins. There seems to be some advantages of using this set up over the standard two plate system, but it does come at a cost (£520)
I await your comments with great interest.
Info on clutch.
Complete single disc clutch kit for 5 speed big twins containing flywheel, new deep spline clutch nub, friction plate, spring plate, pressure plate, and flywheel bolts. Suitable for all big twins with either distributor or crankshaft mounted ignition system, not suitable for Digiplex equipped models.
This clutch upgrade has the following advanges over the old two plate clutch:
• Reduction in flywheel and clutch weight of approx. 1KG
• Improved acceleration
• Smoother gear changes at high
RPM
• Quicker engine decelleration
• Reduction in engine vibration as the clutch assembly is (this is not possible with the original clutch)
• Lighter handlebar clutch lever action
• More precise clutch engagement and
disenaadement.

* More progressive clutch engagement.
* Increased ability to handle higher torque and horsepower.
* Lower clutch disk wear (reduced maintenance)
* Fewer parts (no intermediate plate, no second friction plate) to wear out
* Ease of assembly - gearbox can be fitted to engine without centering of the clutch disk

I’ll follow this with interest…..
Re: Clutch - RAM single plate upgrade
My T4 8 valve Stelvio had a single plate car clutch fitted when it was reconditioned during the build 2 years ago. Alan Layzell will probably have more details than I can give.
Re: Clutch - RAM single plate upgrade
Any thoughts Alan?
Re: Clutch - RAM single plate upgrade
I've revived this topic as I'm planning on renewing my Type 3 clutch over the next couple of months. I'm probably going to fit the Gutsibits standard deep splined complete clutch kit rather than a RAM single plate upgrade. I've looked on the web and only found a couple of references to the RAM kit - one of them is somewhat negative about it and the other reference indicates it's not suitable for injected engines with a flywheel sensor.

Re: Clutch - RAM single plate upgrade
I haven’t yet done anything, the costs are quite high and not enough info to prove either way if it’s the right way to go.
