Re: A-FRAME Goes Legal

Dave You are right about the coupling, AlKo rated 700-1000kg. Perhaps a bit over the top but that seems to be the smallest they do. Relates to the fact that under 750kg does not need brakes. (Civil servant rules) I didn't come across Knott. The black angle bolted to the side of the coupling with an ...

Re: New build

I have the standard lever/float fuel sender supplied by Al.
Works well, when the gauge says empty there is still 1/4 of a tank of petrol left. Perfect reserve.
A dip tube sender can be fitted but needs an adaptor plate.
For the budding machinists, here's a sketch.

Re: New build

Congratulations. Good choice of vehicle to build. 8-) About the rear tyre, when you are logged in, put 'rear tyre' into the search box top right of the screen. There's lots come up. Make sure that the pump and filter are accessible for maintenance, I made that mistake. Good luck with the build. Tony

Re: Electrics - oh no!

The hazard switch is doing 2 things.
1. Change power source from switched ignition circuit to direct supply from battery.
2. Connect together left and right indicator circuits.

Sketch may clarify. (May need to open in new tab)

Re: Electrics - oh no!

Do you have led or filament bulbs? leds need an electronic flasher unit.
Do you have a separate supply from the battery for the hazards?
What type of hazard switch do you have?
It can be wired so that you only need one flasher unit.

It's a kind of magic!

Re: Build progress

Yes, the leather trim was glued to the "roll". I used a D shaped foam rubber tube which I think Al supplied but is available from Woolies, plus a foam finisher for smoothness. (Under the leather) https://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/product/1823/sponge-extrusion On the first car I built, I bonded nuts to ...

Re: Build progress

I didn't stick my cockpit roll on to the body, I bolted it with captive bolts laminated to the g/f roll before upholstering.
Was certainly a boon when she went in for respray a couple of winters ago.
It's documented on the old forum somewhere, I'll look it out if there is interest.
