Re: Build progress

Build nearing completion. Have glued the vinyl to the f/glass cockpit roll but have not yet fixed roll to body, probably will glue in place. Took 2 days to get satisfactory result stretching vinyl over roll and minimising creases on corners, end result acceptable but not perfect. Could not resist fi...

Re: Build progress

Tony, certainly be interested to have more details re fixing cockpit trim. Did you glue the vinyl trim to the fibreglass “roll” instead of stretching down and glueing to body?

Re: Thinking about buying a 1100 cc engine.

Hi Kristoffer, have just seen very low mileage California on eBay, current bid £1650 with 6 days to go.
Bike has stood for a while but apparently runs well. The seller is prepared to ship internationally.

Re: Build progress

Thanks Chris. I know you are trying to rush me so that I am not properly prepared for the race challenge against your big and heavy Triking!! Agree that clear silicon good to stick cockpit moulding onto body, but is there a preferred contact adhesive for wrapping round and sticking vinyl trim to bod...

Re: Thinking about buying a 1100 cc engine.

Fully agree with Dave. I bought 1998 California that had stood outside for a while, but with a recorded mileage of 17000, for £2400. Whilst waiting for Triking kit I spent some time cleaning parts from bike that were not required, advertised them on eBay and Gumtree and got back £1950 (approx £1800 ...

Re: Build progress

Body now fully glued on, and paintwork intact!! Have just got to run a seal between body lip and floor under car to ensure water tight. This part of build was nowhere near as bad as I feared - should have listened to Alan and others. Currently finishing wiring rear lights and indicators in detachabl...

Inertia reel seat belts

Not that keen on static seat belts. Would prefer to fit inertia reel type, as I did on JZR that I built, so interested to know if anyone has fitted these using standard Triking fixing points.

Re: Tubeless Tyre on Rim Spoked Wheel

For my type 3 build I am using a Michelin Pilot Activ rear tyre, size 140/80-17, which gets good reviews for achieving high mileages. Although the wheel is the tubeless type, I have fitted an inner tube as a precaution since the original tyre lost pressure very slowly from around the rim. The Trikin...

Re: Build progress

Better pics of painted body. It is now glued on at the front bulkhead, despite my worries it was easy to line up and stick in place. My apologies to Richard for any distress caused when I admitted that bonnet was not fitted when I did the glueing!! However, as you can see, all is well and it fits fi...

Re: Build progress

Getting body ready for painting took longer than expected, every day I seemed to find another pin hole showing through my primer. Kept changing my mind about whether to paint it myself with aerosols or use local body shop who had quoted good price. Continuous damp, cold weather made the second optio...
