Hi Andy,
This has been added to the build on Factory builds for the reason you have discovered. Please do replace the holder and fuse. I have retro fitted this fuse to my machine.

If the brake light switch has failed, wire in a relay with the new one is the perceived wisdom.

I don't know if you already know but the information on setting the speedo can be found on the suppliers site. The more pick ups the more accurate the reading.
